This week, I interviewed Tyler Turett. Turett is currently in his last semester at CSULB and will be receiving his bachelor’s degree in Animation. His dream job is to work for pixar, because he said the first time he saw Toy Story he was amazed. Since then, he has always been interested in animation and wanted to make things like Toy Story.
Turett stated that each drawing takes a while to make, because he starts off with a whole bunch of character designs with different shapes and sizes. He makes around twenty rough sketches until he is satisfied with a design. “The process is tough,” stated Turett. He draws the character once and then makes different mouths for the character to use for dialogues. Turett makes an actual skeleton with moveable joints for his characters.
The drawing of carrots is one of Turetts’s favorite scenes. It shows a man cutting carrots very well and his friends are actually amazed by how well he’s cutting the carrots. The next scene is a flashback of giant carrots beating him up. One of his favorite characters is the basketball devil character and the tall skinny frog guy. He stated that he is always making new characters so it’s hard to choose a favorite.
For Turett’s future, he has an internship lined up in Portland for an animation company and is scheduled to make a cartoon show. He will be working for the company until they stop making the show.
I found Turett’s work to be very creative and funny also! I applaud animators because they have to create different drawings for different scenes and they also have to make the animation flow smoothly to fit the storyline. I wish Turett good luck on his journey to become an animator for Pixar! I hope to see some animation from him in the near future.
